The UGA Bulldogs
Authored by Raymond Whitney
I'm from a town about twenty miles north of Athens, Georgia. Around here, everyone seems to have Bulldog fever during football season. I'm no different. The University of Georgia Bulldogs are easily my favorite college football team. I grew up watching their games with my father and brother. This fall, I will resume watching them on my best choice tv. I even record the games to watch again later during the week.
On game days, that little town is flooded! One of my most nostalgic childhood memories comes from watching the Bulldogs play at Sanford Stadium in Athens. I loved watching the excitement of all of the fans. My father even allowed me to have my face painted red and black. I own tons of UGA paraphernalia, including a bumper sticker, three t-shirts, five hats, and a warm-up suit. My favorite piece of paraphernalia is a T-shirt that says, "How 'bout them dogs?" I know it sounds so hillbilly-ish, but I love it! I've had it since I was thirteen, but it still fits. I wear it almost every Saturday during football season.
I have an uncle who brags about watching Herschel Walker play for the Bulldogs back in the 80s. I'm not old enough to remember Walker, but I do remember Hines Ward, Champ Bailey, and Boss Bailey. They were my favorite players.
