#23 Purdue at Iowa open thread

Just a reminder that I will be doing a liveblog from Jake's in the Village during today's game. If anyone wants to stop by and say hi I'll be the guy sitting by himself with the laptop in a booth during the game. I'd love to meet and thank any Paint Crew member for coming out and supporting the team this season, and for reading. You guys make this possible.

This is also the official open thread for the game. Feel free to stop by and comment if you're not at Jake's today.

What's the drink of choice for today??

I would love to see Hummel play 6-8 minutes today in tune up for a 20 minute game against Michigan St. this week.. I'm not holding my breath tho on that one....

I don't think Robbie should even warm up. I don't even want to risk it. The earliest I'd want to see him is OSU or the 2nd MSU game. I say, let Bobby Buckets get some more PT and confidence, win what we can w/o him and lets make a run in the 2 tourneys.

I love Bobby Buckets and he should deft play, but lets not kidd ourselves. He is not absorbing Hummel's minutes, when he is on the court he is giving one of our guards a break. With Hummel's absence, what we are seeing is Johnson being asked to carry the burden and play an extra 6 or 8 minutes a game then what he was before the injury. Given the nature of the BigTen, this will catch up to him and make him less effective down the stetch. Unless Green (and Calasan for that matter) can step-up up his game and be a solid inside presence (ie rebound the basketball) we dont need hummel to win games per say, but help save Johnson for the stretch run/tourneys... IMHO..

We are officially live from Jake's int he Village. It took me a few minutes to get the internet working, plus my first game to cover today between West Lafayette and Western went five overtimes, but I am here.

Looks like we have our answer. Robbie just went in.

So far, Jackson has a poor entry pass to Johnson, shuffling feet turnover, pushing off turnover... I know he will get better, but he is pretty painful to watch.

Welcome back, marcus Green!!

I think I just saw that Iowa fan pick his nose and eat it... Nice shot Green- hopefully that will give him confidence.

I LOVE Iowa's "new" uniforms!

Geez Grant, maybe he should try to get some 2's for confidence instead of relying only on the 3.

I think Purdue is going to start pulling away and win by at least 25.

I like this! one shot per possession for them. great rebounding.

I hope Hummell has really made progress in his healing. I would hate to see him aggravate something vs. Iowa.

I'd like to see them wait on RH until at least MSU... unless he really is better???

Nepotism is alive and well in Iowa City...

T-Mill... you got any big plans for your lady tonight??

Hehehe, sadly I am working today. This is a break between two high school games I am covering.

Nice EM!

I think Iowa will wear down early in the 2nd and the game will end as the earlier game this season in Mackey...

this is the type of game we always win. If you believe in the 64 point magic number do you really think Iowa is going to score 45 points in the second half without two of its main players?

good, the five overtime game story is finished and sent, so now I can comment more.

That was an ugly three, Chris, not in the flow of the offense

T-Mill said...

We've got to start hitting some shots and put them away...

Note to the officials: E'Twaun must actually make physical contact with the player, not the ball, in order for a foul to be called.

Maybe it's because I'm not watching the game live, but just seeing the box score update. Is the foul disparity really that bad?
